Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 by Moors and Jews who fled Spain and settled in the Rif mountains in northwestern Morocco. Today it's known as the "Blue Pearl of Morocco" -- its brightly painted old town strikingly picturesque and memorable. There are several theories as to why the houses are painted blue, one of which focuses on the symbolism of blue representing the sky and heaven as well as the pursuit of a spiritual life. 📿
Want to meander the blue alleys of Chefchaouen with us this October? 😉 Our add-on option will take you there, with plenty of leisure time to explore this magical blue city. Link in profile ✈️ 🌏 🙌🏽 @traversejourneys ◽️
The incredible Sani Isla lodge 2 1/2 hours by boat & canoe down the Napo River in Ecuador. The local community of about 650 is called the Sani Islas, and they own and run a fantastic program where visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Amazon while learning about and participating in cultural and environmental conservation in the area. We’ve seen wooly monkeys in the treetops, canoed through waters home to piranhas and electric eels, and listened to myriad bird calls - there are more than 580 registered species here. We also enjoyed a fabulous meal of tilapia, plantains and yucca with the local women’s lodge whose work in permaculture and artisan crafts brings income to the local area. .
